Brief Itinerary

The Poon Hill Trek is a popular and relatively short trek in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It offers breathtaking views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, as well as a chance to experience the culture and hospitality of the local Gurung and Magar communities. Here’s a day-by-day itinerary for a 5-day Poon Hill trek:

Day 1: Kathmandu to Nayapul and Tikhedhunga

Embark on your adventure by either flying or driving from Kathmandu to Pokhara. From Pokhara, set out on a road journey to Nayapul, a scenic drive lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Upon reaching Nayapul, your trek to Tikhedhunga commences, leading you through enchanting landscapes for about 4 to 5 hours. As the day winds down, rest at a comfortable teahouse in Tikhedhunga to spend the night.

Day 2: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani

Rise early and kick off the day with a challenging hike to Ulleri, where you’ll tackle a steep uphill climb. Your journey continues through lush rhododendron forests and charming villages, culminating in your arrival at Ghorepani after 6 to 7 hours of trekking. In Ghorepani, rest for the night in a welcoming teahouse.

Day 3: Ghorepani to Poon Hill (early morning) and Tadapani

The day begins with a pre-dawn start, as you ascend Poon Hill for a breathtaking sunrise view that rewards your 45 to 60-minute hike. Following this awe-inspiring spectacle, return to Ghorepani for a hearty breakfast. With renewed energy, embark on the trek to Tadapani, which unfolds over 5 to 6 hours of hiking. Your overnight stay is set in a teahouse in Tadapani.

Day 4: Tadapani to Ghandruk

As you journey from Tadapani, you’ll trek through lush forests that offer captivating vistas along the way. Descend towards Ghandruk, a picturesque Gurung village, where you’ll immerse yourself in its charm and culture. Spend 4 to 5 hours traversing this beautiful terrain and explore the village, including a visit to the Gurung Museum. Your night’s rest will be in a cozy teahouse in Ghandruk.

Day 5: Ghandruk to Nayapul and Return to Pokhara

The final leg of your trek involves a 3 to 4-hour hike to Nayapul, following the meandering path along the Modi Khola river. Upon reaching Nayapul, a brief 1.5 to 2-hour drive takes you back to Pokhara. In Pokhara, you can unwind and explore the city, perhaps visiting the serene Phewa Lake as you reflect on your remarkable journey.

This is a basic itinerary, and you can adjust it to your preferences and available time. The trek can be completed in as few as 3 – 4 days or extended to 6 or 7 days by adding extra rest days or side trips to nearby villages.
